Yesteryear Collection

In 1907 the City of London Police Committee established a mobile ambulance system with a linked network of communication via 52 white police pillars strategically placed throughout the city. A call from a pillar to a central control ensured the dispatch of one of three Electro-mobile ambulances to the scene. They were manned by a trained driver and police officer who gave first aid at the scene and conveyed the injured to one of the city hospitals. The City Police operated the ambulance service until 1949. Model details taken from the book “Constabulary Duties” by Michael V Dixon a history of policing in postcards: For information Tel: 0603 426243.
